A side dish deserves a pan of its own

Dinner rarely comes out of a single pan. While the meat fries, the rice, the sauce or the steamed vegetables have to cook somewhere too, and a large pot is usually too much for that. This 1.2 litre, 16 cm saucepan is exactly the size of a side dish for two.

Small across, tall in the wall

The pan measures Ø16 × 7 cm, which makes it narrow but deep. That matters for anything with liquid: there is enough water over the rice for it to cook, a béchamel does not run over the rim, and you can warm milk in it without it spreading thin across a wide base.

The handle is 20 cm long, ergonomic and soft to the touch, and it stays cool while you cook; the same soft covering sits on the knob of the lid. You hold a saucepan throughout the stirring, so the grip is not a detail.

A lid that does more than cover

The pan comes with a tempered glass lid built on a soft close, heat resistant silicone system. Because of the silicone the lid does not clatter onto the pan; it settles into place slowly. Through the glass you can see what is happening inside without lifting it, so you do not let the steam out for nothing.

The lid also has a steam hole, so boiling water does not lift it. Straining slots run along its rim: the lid carries a built-in strainer, and the integrated spout on the pan lets you pour the cooking water away without reaching for a colander. For a portion of pasta or a pan of potatoes that is one thing fewer to wash.

Premium in how it stands on the worktop

Quick to wash

The pan is easy to clean. Thanks to the non-stick inner surface, the residue comes out of the cooled pan with warm water and a soft sponge, and the glass lid is washed separately.

Care

• Let the pan cool before running water into it, and keep the hot glass lid away from cold water too.
• Warm water and a soft sponge are usually enough.
• Use a wooden or silicone tool when you stir, so the non-stick inner surface is not scratched.
• Rinse the silicone rim and the straining slots of the lid after use so no food stays in them.
• When storing, turn the lid onto the pan or keep it separately, so the silicone is not pressed for long periods.
