How do you organise a small kitchen?
Keep one clear stretch of worktop for a chopping board and food preparation. Leave out the appliances you use regularly and find reachable storage for the rest. Before buying, check more than the footprint: allow room to open, refill and clean each item. This keeps a small kitchen useful when cooking begins.
Measure the movements too
- Set out your chopping board and preparation bowl. The space left beside them is the real allowance for appliances, rather than the width of an empty worktop.
- Rehearse using the appliance. A water dispenser needs room to remove and replace its tank; a blender bottle needs access from above.
- Include handles when measuring cookware. A 20 cm frying pan and a 16 cm saucepan do different jobs; choose each for your hob zones and usual portions.
A 400 ml portable blender can make one drink and be put away afterwards. For the water dispenser’s 23.5 × 15.2 cm footprint, also allow for its 29.5 cm height, your cup and tank handling. The right fit is one that works with your movements.
Should everything be smaller?
No. If you often batch-cook, an existing larger pot may still be useful. Start by sorting out the items you rarely reach for.
What should stay on the worktop?
What you use every day and can reach comfortably. If an appliance must move before every meal, try finding it another place.
