One handle, five heads, and the drawer clears out

In most bathrooms the dryer, the round brush and the curling iron all stand separately, each with its own cord. This appliance is one handle and five heads that click on: a concentrator, a large brush, a comb brush and two styling barrels. The same motor dries, smooths and shapes waves, and the heads stay together in the travel bag that comes with it.

The BLDC motor, and why the drive matters

This appliance uses a brushless BLDC motor. You can adjust the temperature and airflow speed separately to suit your hair and the styling head you choose.

The appliance runs on 220–240 V at 50/60 Hz and draws 1200–1400 W. It heats up fast, holds the temperature steady, and carries protection against heat damage.

Three heat levels, three air speeds

Heat and speed are set separately, so you do not have to compromise on one shared slider. Fine hair takes a lower heat with more air; thick, dense hair the other way round. Power goes on and off with a slide switch, and the LED tells you the appliance is running.

The concentrator: the head for blow-drying

The concentrator gathers the air into a narrow slot, so it blows where you are guiding the brush instead of across the next section. This is where the morning starts: you pull the damp hair down its length, and the result is decided while it is still drying.

The large brush: roots and ends in one pass

With the large brush you lift at the roots and turn the ends under or out. This is the head that finishes most everyday looks, because it dries and shapes at once, so you do not have to go over the same section twice. Protection against heat damage works in the appliance while you do it.

Two barrels, right and left

The box holds two styling barrels, one right-handed and one left-handed. That matters in front of the mirror, when you want the wave to sit the same way on both sides of your face. With one barrel you end up twisting at an awkward angle on one side; with two the movement is the same on both.

Right and left barrels

Two styling heads that work in opposite directions. One wraps the section away from the face, the other towards it, so the waves run the same way on both sides of your head.

The comb brush: the tidying head

The teeth of the comb head pass through the section while the air runs along it. You are not building a new look with this one, you are restoring order: second-day hair, flyaway baby hair and a parting that has drifted.

Self-cleaning and the filter cover

Hot-air appliances fail at the intake: hair and dust settle on the filter, the airflow weakens, the machine runs hot. This styler has a self-cleaning system, and the filter cover lifts off so you can wipe it by hand as well. Together these two prevent the build-up, so the airflow stays even over the longer run.

A cord you do not have to untwist

The 1.8 metre cord swivels a full turn at the handle and ends in a hanging loop. It will not wind itself onto your wrist while you style, and afterwards you can hang the appliance up in the bathroom instead of stuffing it into a drawer.

A morning at the mirror

Towel-dried hair, concentrator, medium heat. While the roots dry you fit the large brush and work down the length. If there are five minutes left, one of the barrels goes on and the two sections around your face get a turn. Changing heads is a click, and you do not have to wait for the whole appliance to cool.

Care

• Switch off after use and let the heads cool before you take them off.
• Lift the filter cover regularly and wipe out the hair and dust that has collected.
• Run the self-clean as the manual describes if the airflow starts to weaken.
• Wipe the housing with a dry or barely damp cloth; it must never be immersed in water.
• Do not wind the cord around the appliance; store it by the hanging loop.
• Keep the heads in the travel bag so the bristles do not get crushed.

On the dressing table

Switched off, a single smooth handle stays on the table, the head clipped onto it, the cord hanging by its loop. That is why the styler does not read as a tool on a dressing table but belongs next to the mirror. It is part of the Fashion by Berlinger Haus beauty line.

Who the five heads are worth it for

It travels well too, because every head sits in the carry bag and there is no separate curling iron to pack. With long, dense hair, bear in mind that the size and hold of the waves also depend on how thick a section you take and on your hair itself.
