How do you begin styling waves at home?
Pre-dry your hair, then divide it into manageable sections. Guide one smaller section onto the styling attachment at a time and choose the direction on each side of your face. Let each finished wave cool before separating it. This makes it easier to see which section size and movement work with your hair.
Prepare in front of the mirror
- Gently blot away water with a towel, then pre-dry with the drying attachment. Avoid trying to wind a large mass of wet hair all at once.
- Clip up the upper sections and start underneath. Choose a section you can guide throughout; if it becomes difficult to handle, divide it.
- Decide which way you want the hair beside your face to turn. Choose the left or right barrel accordingly.
- Let the styled section cool. Bring the waves together with your fingers at the end, rather than separating each one immediately.
Barrel, brush or a straightforward hairdryer?
Use the barrel for waves and the large brush for turning the ends in or out. The comb attachment can help when smoothing individual sections. If you mostly dry your hair without changing the style, a concentrator hairdryer may suit your routine; five attachments add choices when you actually alternate between those looks.
- Practise when you are not rushing out to an important occasion. A few sections beside the face are enough for a first attempt.
- Wave hold depends on your hair, moisture and section thickness. Change one thing at a time on the next attempt.
I only want to turn the ends. Do I need a barrel?
The large brush may be the more useful choice. Shape the direction of the ends on the brush without winding the whole section.
Why do the two sides look different?
Check the barrel direction and the thickness of the sections. Similar sections make repeating the movement on both sides easier.
When should I brush out the finished style?
Let the sections cool first. Begin loosening them with your fingers, separating only as much as needed for the shape you want.
