Why you will like it

One pan for frying, one pot for boiling: this four-piece set pairs two frequently used shapes. The 24 cm frying pan holds 1.7 litres, and the 24 cm pot holds 4.1 litres. A glass lid fits the pot, while a black silicone trivet makes the fourth piece. It is a useful starting point when you want a small selection of cookware you will use regularly.

Cook pasta in the pot while preparing its vegetables in the frying pan. Both Fashion by Berlinger Haus vessels are made from forged aluminium with a TitanPro non-stick coating and can be used on induction. The silicone-rimmed glass lid lets you check the cooking, and soft-touch handles provide a comfortable grip.

Two vessels that cover most weekdays

Look at what actually goes on your hob during the week and two vessels do most of the work: a pan with something browning in it and a pot with something cooking in it. This set is exactly that pair, a 24 cm frying pan and a 24 cm pot with a glass lid, plus a silicone trivet.

The four pieces together: the lidded pot, the frying pan and the ribbed silicone trivet
Four pieces: pot, lid, pan, trivet

The same diameter, two different jobs

Both the pan and the pot measure 24 cm, but their heights allow different things. The pan holds 1.7 litres, enough for two cuts of meat or a pan of vegetables. The pot holds 4.1 litres, which is a family's soup, four portions of pasta or a larger batch of stewed vegetables.

The lid you also drain the pasta with

The pot comes with a tempered glass lid with a soft-closing, heat resistant silicone system and a steam hole. Through the glass you see when the water comes to the boil, and the steam hole lets the excess out so the lid does not start rattling on the rim.

The straining teeth run along the rim of the lid.

The rim of the lid is toothed, so the cooking water runs out under the lid while the pasta stays inside. That detail means one colander less in the sink, and no tipping the pasta out over the basin.

Two pieces, one series

A matt surface with minimalist shapes. Both vessels are forged aluminium, the pot carries a short handle on each side, the lid a knob shaped from the same material, and a raised brand plate runs along the side. That is what makes the set look like two pieces of one series rather than two separate purchases.

The titanPro coating in both vessels

The cooking surface and the inside of the pot take the brand's hard-wearing titanPro non-stick layer. In the pan you notice it when turning meat; in the pot it shows where most cookware gives up: rice, semolina pudding and a thickened stew do not catch on the bottom, and there is nothing to soak afterwards.

Turbo induction base

Both vessels are built on a turbo induction base. The thicker patterned plate is there so heat from the hob arrives across the whole bottom rather than at a single point. With a thicker dish that decides whether you have to stir constantly or simply keep an eye on it.

The induction plate covers nearly the whole base.

Five hob types

Both vessels hold their own on whatever hob is there: induction, gas, electric, vitroceramic and halogen. To a rented flat, a holiday home or a new kitchen, the same two vessels travel on.

Handles and the trivet

The handle and the lid knob are ergonomic, soft to the touch and stay cool. The fourth piece is a silicone trivet, so the hot pot can go on the table while everyone helps themselves.

Washing up with two vessels

With two vessels tidying after dinner is not a separate task: warm water and a soft sponge lift the residue out of the cooled pan and pot.

What it is made of, and what it is free from

Forged aluminium for the pan and the pot, a titanPro non-stick layer on their cooking surfaces, tempered glass in the lid and heat resistant silicone around its rim.

Steam hole
A small opening in the lid through which excess steam escapes. It keeps the lid from lifting while the contents boil, and holds the temperature in the pot steadier than leaving the lid ajar.

Everyday scenes

On a Tuesday evening pasta cooks in the pot while the sauce comes together in the pan. You drain the pasta with the lid, tip it into the pan, and two vessels need washing instead of four.

The sauce waits in the pan while the pasta cooks.

On Sunday the same pot carries the soup. With over four litres of capacity it is not the pot that decides how many sit down to eat, and the next day the leftovers reheat in the same vessel.

Care

  • The 4.1 litre pot holds its warmth for a long time: let it go lukewarm before it reaches the sink.
  • Soak burnt-on rice or a milk dish in lukewarm water instead of scraping it.
  • Wood or silicone instead of a metal spatula: that is how the 24 cm cooking surface stays unscratched.
  • Rinse the pasta starch out of the straining teeth of the lid and wipe its silicone rim dry.
  • For storage put the pan on top of the pot with a cloth between them, and the lid upside down on top of that.
  • Wash the trivet by hand and let it go back under the pot only when dry.

Who this set suits

Who is the four-piece cookware set a good choice for?

One and two person households, a first kitchen of your own, and anyone who would start with a few much-used pieces. You get a 24 cm frying pan and a 4.1 litre pot with its lid. If you need three pots and two pans, the ten-piece combination is the larger step.

How it arrives

The four pieces come in one gift box with a photograph of the cookware on the side. As a housewarming present it needs no repacking.

Frequently asked questions

What are the four pieces?

A 24 cm, 1.7 litre frying pan, a 24 cm, 4.1 litre pot, the glass lid that belongs to the pot, and a silicone trivet.

Does the pan have a lid too?

No. The set contains one lid and it belongs to the pot.

Can I drain pasta in it?

The rim of the lid is toothed and the side of the pot is drawn into a spout: the water leaves under the rim while the pasta stays in.

Can I use it on induction?

Yes, both vessels are built on a turbo induction base, and they work on all five hobs: induction, gas, electric, vitroceramic, halogen.

What is the titanPro coating?

The brand's hard-wearing non-stick coating. It goes inside both vessels so food releases with less fat.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Wash it by hand; warm water and a soft sponge are enough.
