The collar and the back do not ask for the same thing

Two thirds of the work on a shirt happens on ten centimetres: the collar, the cuff, the button placket. The rest is large, flat surface where one pass is enough. This iron has a separate temperature dial and a separate steam dial because those are two jobs, not one.

Where the time actually goes

Mostly into waiting and starting over. Waiting for it to heat, waiting for the steam, and finding out that the setting you chose was too low for the fabric in hand. The 2400 W output and the fast heat-up shorten that first stretch, and the indicator light shows how the heating is getting on.

You pick the temperature for the fabric type with the thermostat dial, following the care label and the manual. So the silk blouse does not get pressed on the same setting as a pair of jeans.

Four modes in one appliance

Dry ironing, steam ironing, a steam burst and a water spray. You set the amount of steam with the steam dial, and within the right temperature range the spray and the burst are both available. A stubborn crease gets the burst; for dry ironing you simply close the steam off.

Vertical steaming earns its place once the garment is already on the hanger: a coat, a curtain, a blazer. You do not have to take it down and lay it flat to let the bigger creases out.

The plate that glides

The soleplate is ceramic coated, and on an iron this is the surface you actually work with. It spreads the steam evenly.

Anti-drip

The arrangement that stops water dripping from the soleplate onto the garment at lower temperatures. The appliance carries it together with the anti-calc and self-clean functions.

280 ml, and what that means for an evening's work

The water tank holds 280 ml, and a 200 ml measuring cup comes with it so you can fill without overfilling. That size covers an average evening, a few shirts and a pair of trousers, without a trip back to the tap.

The cable is 1.9 metres. That number matters when the ironing board does not stand next to the socket: it is the room you have between the two ends of the board.

Safety and materials

The appliance is built with overheat protection, and the indicator light reports its state throughout. For safe operation, use it on a stable surface and fill the water correctly.

How big it is, and where it stands

The iron is 29 cm long, 15 cm wide and 12.5 cm high. Stood on its heel that is the space it takes at the end of the board, and that is the shelf depth to measure in the cupboard.

Ergonomics first, form after

The iron is ergonomic and modern in shape, and that order is not accidental. On an iron the handle decides everything first: where your thumb lands, whether you reach the steam button without turning your hand over, and whether the cord has room behind your wrist.

That is why the controls sit together in front of the handle: the thermostat, the steam dial and the indicator light can be read at a glance while your other hand straightens the fabric. Mid-press is no time to go hunting for a button.

Cleaning and storage

• Unplug it after ironing and empty the water left in the tank.
• Let it cool completely before you put it away; a warm soleplate marks a cupboard too.
• Wipe the cold soleplate with a soft, damp cloth; do not use scouring agents on it.
• Run the anti-calc and self-clean functions as often as the manual says.
• Coil the cable loosely rather than tightly around the appliance.
