Music where you happen to be

In the morning the playlist is in the bathroom, later in the kitchen, in the afternoon on the terrace. A phone speaker sounds the same in all three places: thin. This speaker is 9 cm wide and 11.5 cm tall, so it fits in your hand and it does not matter which room you carry it into.

What a 52 mm driver can do

Inside sits a 52 mm, 4 ohm, 6 watt driver. This is not hall reinforcement; it is the size that fills a bathroom, a kitchen or a smaller living room, loud enough to carry into the next room.

Six hours on a charge

The built-in battery is 1200 mAh and one charge covers 6 hours of playback, or 4 to 6 hours at medium volume. That covers an afternoon, a workout or a small gathering. Charging has to come from a 5 V USB source, and a Type-C cable is in the box.

Four sources, one speaker

You pair it over Bluetooth 5.2, and the link holds up to 10 metres. With no phone to hand you can play from a TF card, from USB or over an AUX cable, and the speaker switches between the modes. The memory function remembers where playback stopped, so an interrupted podcast does not start again from the beginning.

Switching is one button. If your phone dies halfway through a hike, the music on a USB stick still plays, and nothing has to be paired again.

Hands-free, and one button for silence

There is a microphone in it too. You can answer, reject and end a call, and the buttons will start a call back. The separate mute button is the reason a speaker like this ends up on a desk: when the other end does not need to hear what is going on around you, one press silences it and you are not hunting through a menu on the phone.

Protection against splashing water. The housing is built so that water splashed onto it does not reach the electronics, which is why the speaker works on a worktop, near a bathroom or out on a terrace. That does not cover immersion, so the speaker must not be put into water or left soaking.

Mood light, if you want it

The LED lighting shows red, purple, blue and white. In daylight you notice none of it; in the evening it is the difference between a plain box on a table and an object that gives light. Anyone who dislikes it turns it off; anyone who likes it counts it as part of the music.

Where it pays off

The box includes a travel bag and the speaker carries a wrist strap. The device travels in a bag, then, rather than standing on a shelf. On a weekend away, in the garden or on a balcony the Bluetooth link is enough to let the phone stay in your pocket.

At home and in an office the TF card and USB matter most: the background music keeps playing even when your phone has gone into a meeting with you. On a video call the built-in microphone and hands-free mode carry your voice better than a laptop's own speaker.

Not the accessory you put away

The speaker carries on the Fashion line's design language: a rounded body, a matte surface, metallic details. It is 9 cm wide and 11.5 cm tall, so it fits the corner of a desk, a bathroom shelf or a worktop. That is why it stays where you set it down instead of going to the bottom of a drawer between uses.

Materials, safety and disposal

A solid outer housing protects the electronics inside, the case carries IPX5 splash protection, and the control buttons are made for frequent use. The wrist strap and the pouch that comes with it keep the surface from scuffing in a bag.

Care

• Wipe the fabric cover with a dry or slightly damp cloth and let it dry.
• Make sure the area around the port is dry before charging.
• Keep it in the supplied pouch so its surface does not get scratched in a bag.
• Do not leave it in a car standing in the sun or next to a radiator.
• Before long storage give it a partial charge rather than leaving it fully flat.

Whom it suits

Do not buy it to run a garden party, or if you expect deep bass: a 6 watt, 52 mm driver will not get you there. It does not belong in a pool or a bath either, because IPX5 covers splashing, not immersion.
