Rechargeable mini blender

One glass of smoothie, not a sink full of parts

Four hundred millilitres, and you drink from the same cup you blended in. There is no jug, no separate blade unit, no lid and no seal, so nothing waits in the sink while the smoothie disappears.

That is about a mug of drink: a fruit smoothie, a milkshake, a juice or baby food. The 400 millilitre cup is sized for one serving, not more.

No socket required

The motor unit runs on a battery, so there is no cable across the worktop, and the position of the socket does not decide where you blend. It works the same on a kitchen worktop in the morning, in a holiday house at the weekend, and in an office kitchen during the week.

Charging goes through USB Type-C, the same cable that charges your phone. A full charge takes 3 hours.

One button, two kinds of press

Everything runs from a single button. Two clicks start the 40-second automatic programme, which stops by itself; that is enough for a fruit smoothie or a shake. A long press starts the other cycle, which stops on its own after 3 minutes.

The double click is not a gimmick but a safety measure: the blender will not start in a bag or on a worktop because something has knocked against the button.

Four pairs of blades, and ice

Four pairs of 18/10 stainless steel blades turn at the bottom of the cup. Ice crushing is a function of its own, so frozen fruit and iced drinks are not out of reach.

Take the cup off and it stops

If the container and the motor base come apart, the appliance switches off immediately. That is the protection that lets you pick the unit up straight after blending: nothing is still turning.

The base is non-slip, so it does not wander across the worktop while it works. Use it on a level, stable surface.

Self cleaning at one button

Cleaning does itself: fill the cup with warm water and a drop of washing-up liquid, run the short programme, pour it out and rinse. The cup can go in a dishwasher; the motor unit cannot, so rinse that only from the blade side under running water, never immerse it, and dry it off.

It fits in the side pocket of a bag

The appliance is 9 cm across and 18.5 cm tall, so it fits in the side pocket of a bag. A silicone grip band runs around the cup, and a strap on the top hooks over your finger.

Where you will actually use it

After a workout, in the gym or in the car: protein and frozen fruit go into the cup, two clicks, and forty seconds later it is drinkable.

At home beside breakfast, when you are making something only for yourself. In the kitchen this is the difference between actually doing it and skipping it because of the big machine.

With a small child, for baby food: one portion of steamed vegetables fits exactly, and no large jug has to come out for a few spoonfuls.

Materials and build

The cup is clear plastic, the motor unit and lid are matt, and the blades are made from 18/10 stainless steel. The appliance is rated at 60 W and its battery is rechargeable.

18/10 stainless steel

Steel alloyed with chromium and nickel, 18 per cent and 10 per cent respectively. The chromium protects against corrosion, the nickel gives toughness. On the blades that means acidic juice and regular rinsing do not stain the edge.

Care and storage

• Rinse the cup after blending, before the fruit dries on.
• For self cleaning, fill it with warm water and a drop of washing-up liquid and run the short programme.
• The cup may go in the dishwasher; the motor unit may not.
• Rinse the motor unit only from the blade side under running water, never immerse it, and dry it off.
• Charge it before putting it away if you will not use it for weeks.
• Let the cup dry before you put it away, then hang it by the strap or set it on a shelf.

When the big blender is too much

If you want to purée two litres of soup or knead dough, this is not the machine. Its size is the point: one glass of drink, anywhere.
