Choose cookware for an induction hob
Induction suitability and base size both matter. Compare them with the requirements of your own hob.

Choose cookware that the manufacturer marks as suitable for induction. The hob also has to detect its base, so check the minimum diameter and requirements for the cooking zone. A pan’s rim diameter is not necessarily the same as its base diameter.
Check before buying
- Look for induction suitability in the product details. For Fashion cookware too, check the description of the particular type you select.
- Read the hob instructions for accepted base sizes. This can matter especially with a small saucepan.
- Centre the pan during use. Do not heat coated cookware empty; choose heat according to the food and cookware instructions.
Is a magnet test enough?
A magnet sticking to a cold pan base is a useful initial sign. Base size and construction also matter, so it does not replace the manufacturer’s induction marking.
Why does my hob not detect a small pan?
Check induction suitability, base diameter and centred placement first. If these are correct, follow the hob’s guidance for its error message.
