In most homes glasses accumulate over the years: two from here, three from there, and in the end there are not four the same. And few people ever buy a decanter for themselves. This set settles both at once: a 750 ml decanter and four 300 ml glasses in one shape language.

Why a set rather than five separate pieces

The glasses are 9 centimetres tall and 9 centimetres wide, holding 300 millilitres. That is well beyond a measure of whisky, and that is the point: there is room for ice alongside the drink. In a narrow glass an ice cube pushes the drink to the rim; here it does not.

After dinner you bring out the decanter and the four glasses. The decanter stands in the middle of the table with the glasses around it, and everyone pours for themselves whenever they want. The bottle can stay in the kitchen: what is on the table looks better.

• The set is easy to clean: rinse the glasses in lukewarm soapy water.
• Fill the decanter with lukewarm water, swirl it and pour it out; because of the narrow neck a long-handled brush helps.
• Take the stopper out before drying so the moisture can leave the bottle.
• Leave the decanter to drain upside down at an angle so no water stays inside.
• Do not use scouring agents or abrasive pads: on the twisted surface they leave a matt mark.
• Do not stack the glasses inside one another, as the rims can be damaged.
