The plate that went into the fridge last night

At lunchtime you do not want to cook again. You only want the edge of the pasta bake to stop burning while the middle stays cold. This microwave gives you six power levels for exactly that: you match the heating to what is on the plate, not to whatever the machine does by default.

Three jobs, three settings

Cold coffee in the morning. Leftovers at noon. Meat out of the freezer in the evening. Each asks for different heat, and none of them is worth switching on the oven for or washing up a pan afterwards.

The defrost setting means you do not have to move the meat to the fridge the night before. With the automatic cooking programmes the appliance sets the time and the power; you only pick the menu. Less guesswork, more predictable results.

What you see on the controls

The control is digital. You set the time and the mode with buttons, and the display shows the remaining programme time, so you do not have to watch the clock. A signal marks the end of the programme.

The timer runs up to 60 minutes. That covers everything from a short reheat to longer programmes, and it means you are not restarting the same job three times over.

It draws 1200 W from the mains at 2450 MHz and delivers 700 W of output power into the cavity. That 700 W is what you step through in six levels: melting chocolate sits in one place, a bowl of soup in another.

The appliance is made for household and similar environments and for indoor office use. In a tea kitchen that means the few reheatings of a day; at home it means pressing the same few buttons from the morning coffee to the evening leftovers.

Twenty litres, and what actually fits

The cavity holds 20 litres and the turntable is Ø24.5 cm borosilicate glass. That 24.5 cm is the number to work with: measure your favourite lunchbox or deep plate against it. Whatever fits will also turn, and the rotation heats it more evenly.

The interior light looks like a detail until it is missing. With it you can look at the bowl without opening the door and interrupting the programme.

Materials, safety, disposal

Borosilicate glass

The heat-resistant glass the turntable is made of. It copes better with sudden temperature differences than ordinary glass, which is why it suits a surface that turns and heats.

Choosing a dish here is not a matter of style. Microwave-safe glass, ceramic and marked plastic can go in; metal and metal-trimmed plates must not. Do not heat sealed containers or whole eggs in their shells, and never run it empty.

Where it stands, and how it looks

The build is compact and modern, and the cable is 100 cm long. When you measure out its place on the worktop, watch for this: the socket should be within reach without stretching the cable along the wall.

Cleaning and care

• Unplug it after use and let it cool before you start.
• Take the turntable out and wash it separately; borosilicate glass copes well with washing up.
• Wipe the cavity with a soft, damp cloth; splashed food comes off more easily while it is fresh.
• Wipe the door seal too, because crumbs on it stop the door closing properly.
• Do not use scouring agents or abrasive pads on the cavity or the casing.
