One appliance fewer on the bathroom counter

In the morning, drying and straightening mean two separate tools: unplug one, plug in the other, and the hair cools down halfway through. This appliance puts both in one body. Warm air from the nozzle dries, and the ceramic-coated plates at its head smooth in the same movement, section by section.

What two-in-one actually solves

Wet hair should not be ironed, yet fully dried hair has to be heated again before it will lie flat. The state in between is what a two-in-one appliance can use: the air dries the section while the plates order it on the way. So your hair takes the heat once rather than twice.

The dryer side offers three airflow speeds and three heat levels including cool; the straightening temperature is set separately from those.

The BLDC motor, and why it matters

A 1000 watt brushless BLDC motor does the work. It turns at around 100,000 rpm. What that means in your hand is that the air does not slowly warm the section, it carries the moisture away quickly, so the appliance spends less time in one place.

From 100 to 230 degrees, and no step further

The plate temperature is adjustable from 100 to 230 °C, and the digital display shows where you are the whole time. As a general rule of thumb, fine, lightened or damaged hair calls for the lower range and thick or curly hair for the upper. The appliance recovers its heat quickly: it reaches 130 degrees in 25 seconds, so the temperature does not drop away after every section.

The plates float, which means they give slightly with the thickness of the hair and stay in contact along the whole section instead of gripping only at their edges.

The ionic generator, against static

Ionic generator

A unit built into the appliance that releases charged particles into the outgoing air. This reduces static build-up, limits flyaway strands and helps preserve the natural shine of the hair.

Its effect shows most in winter, when hair springs out in every direction the moment a hat comes off. At that point the result depends less on smoothing than on whether the strands take a charge.

The knurled barrel that keeps it out on the counter

A knurled metal barrel runs around the grip, dark plates sit at the head, and the body is one clean line. It is built from stainless steel and high-quality plastic. On a bathroom counter it reads as an object rather than an electrical device, which is exactly why it stays out.

Safety and the everyday details

The handle locks, so the appliance stays closed in a drawer. Leave it for twenty seconds and it goes into automatic standby. The cord is 1.8 metres long and swivels through 360 degrees with a hanging loop at the end, so it does not twist up while you work around your head. The filter cover lifts off, letting you clear out the hairs and dust it draws in.

If you take it with you

A storage bag comes in the box, so the appliance is not knocking about in the bottom of a suitcase. Pack it once it has cooled: heat from the plates does the fabric no good, and the next morning will not start any sooner for it having been packed warm.

Cleaning and storage

• Unplug it after use and let it cool completely before touching the plates.
• Wipe the plates with a dry or barely damp cloth; styling products leave residue on them.
• Lift off the filter cover and clear the hairs it has drawn in.
• Coil the cord loosely rather than winding it around the appliance.
• Put it in the supplied bag once cool.
