Help the crumbs cling, spread a little oil across the coating and leave each piece its own space in the basket.

**How do you cook breaded chicken in an air fryer?** Coat pieces of similar thickness, lightly oil both sides and arrange them without overlapping. Turn them during cooking. A setting of 200 °C for around 14 minutes is only a starting point: thickness and batch size affect the time needed. Check doneness with a clean food thermometer rather than relying on the breadcrumb colour.

## Breaded chicken breast

Preparation: 20 minutes, Cooking: 14 minutes, 4 servings

### Ingredients

- 4 chicken breast slices, about 1 cm thick
- salt and pepper
- 4 tablespoons flour
- 2 eggs
- 120 g breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon oil

### Steps

1. Set up a coating station: Put flour, beaten eggs and breadcrumbs on separate plates. Have a clean plate ready for the coated pieces. Do not wash raw chicken; wash tools and surfaces that touched it before using them for other foods.
2. Even out the pieces and coat: If needed, pound the covered slices to a similar thickness. Season with salt and pepper. Coat in flour, egg and breadcrumbs in that order. Shake off excess flour and gently press crumbs onto the edges too.
3. Spread the oil: Brush a thin layer of oil over both sides of the coating. Preheat according to your appliance’s instructions. Arrange the pieces without overlap and cook any that do not fit in a separate batch.
4. Cook, then turn: Try starting at 200 °C for around 14 minutes. Carefully turn with tongs at about 7 minutes. This is a guide for the first batch; several batches take longer overall.
5. Check the centre too: Use a clean food thermometer in the thickest part. It should hold at least 75 °C for 30 seconds; cook longer if necessary. Put cooked chicken on a clean plate or rack, not the plate used for raw meat.

> The temperature check follows [Food Standards Agency guidance](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cooking-your-food/cooking-your-food). The cooking time is an estimate; always check your own batch.

## Use the first batch to improve the next

For pale, floury patches, check whether egg covered the flour and a thin coat of oil reached the breadcrumbs. If the underside becomes damp, avoid stacking the pieces before serving. Note the thickness and cooking time that worked so you have your own starting point next time.

### Cook the side dish separately

While the chicken cooks in the 6-litre air fryer, prepare vegetables or sauce in the 24 cm deep pan with lid. Basket capacity does not guarantee that every slice fits in a single batch.
